DIY Bike Repair

DIY Bike Repair!

SBK wants to make bicycle maintenance, repair, and training more widely available to everyone, regardless of skill level.  To this end, we provide the space, tools, and volunteer mechanic assistance necessary to help our patrons learn how to work on their own bikes.

What to Know:

  • To participate in DIY, patrons must sign a liability waiver and pay a $5 shop fee (cash only). This shop fee covers a bike rack, volunteer assistance and access to some consumable supplies, such as chain oil and grease. Any other parts needed are extra and can be priced by the manager of the day.
  • DIY has limited spots and is available at manager’s discretion and may be reduced or eliminated for a shift if the shop is too busy or we are lacking in volunteer power. We strongly recommend arriving early in a shift in case there is a wait.
  • Kids & families work for free in the shop when working on a youth bike (under 18).
  • While we try to help with any bicycle repair or maintenance a patron needs, we are all volunteers and have varying levels and areas of knowledge. If volunteers on one shift don’t know something, feel free to try a different shift’s volunteers.
