The final schedule for our maintenance classes will be hammered out this weekend, but in the meantime, we have decided that we’re definitely going to have an encore presentation of our basic maintenance class on Sunday, May 16th, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

SBK staff volunteers will walk you through basic maintenance, such as tire and tube repair, brake adjustment and tuning, keeping your cables and chain happy, and making sure your shifters and derailleurs are in tip-top shape, as well as providing a basic overview on bicycle vocabulary and basic bike fit.

We’ve only got 15 seats available, so be sure to reserve yourself a space by e-mailing classes@sacbikekitchen.org.

Update: So as not to conflict with the Amgen Tour of California, we’re moving the maintenance class back. It will now run from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM.

The Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen is restarting its training schedule with a new series of classes, starting with a basic maintenance class on Sunday, September 20, at 2:00 PM.

After a run of successful classes at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op, we’re moving our training back to our home base at 1915 I Street, and we’re starting off this new training season with a basic training course on Sunday, September 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

We’ll cover basic bike vocabulary, parts of a bike, and common maintenance tasks like flat tire repair. In addition, we’ll review basic bike safety checks, hold a brief question-and-answer period, and (time permitting) finish up with a discussion on safe riding techniques.

Since this class will be held in our shop, we’ll be able to open our space to your bikes and you’ll even be able to get some hands-on experience at what you’ve learned in the class, fixing a flat or oiling a chain.

Registration is limited to 15 attendees, and there will be a $10 suggested donation at the door, with all proceeds going to the Bike Kitchen. E-mail sha...@sacbikekitchen.org to register, and please mention whether you plan on bringing your bike.
