FAQs

Q: How do I donate?

A: Bring the stuff down during open hours and we’ll let you know whether or not we can use it. No clothing or shoes, please. Thank you for all of your amazing donations that have kept the shop going!

Q: How can I volunteer?

A: Email: volunteer@bikekitchen.org and let us know when you’d like to come in, or just stop by the shop and talk to the shop manager.

Q: Can I volunteer if I’m not a mechanic?

A: Absolutely! If you’re interested in computers or advertising or event planning or just about anything, we could find a place for you in the Kitchen. Again, just send an email to volunteer@sacbikekitchen.org and let us know what your interests are and where you’d like to help out.

**On Sunday December 16th at 4pm we’ll be signing up for coordinator and committee positions: be there if you’re interested in volunteering outside the shop (community outreach, events planning, media, etc.)

Q: How does the Bike Kitchen work?

A: We’re all volunteers. We all love bikes. Three days a week, we open the shop and our tools to the public so everyone can learn the beauty of working on their own bike. We ask for a $5 donation, but nobody is ever turned away for lack of funds. We provide free services to anyone who needs them. Just about everything in the shop is donated, so we may not have exactly what you’re looking for, but we can usually make it work.

Q: I came by during business hours, but the door was locked and the lights were off. Why were you closed?

A: Because the organization is run by volunteers, it is at times difficult to keep the schedule full. We all do the best we can, and the Bike Kitchen greatly appreciates all of our amazing volunteers. If there are not at least two people available to volunteer for a shift, we close the shop. We appreciate your understanding! And remember, everyone is more than welcome to volunteer to make sure the shop is open as much as possible.

Q: What kinds of classes do you offer?

A: We’re currently teaching classes through the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op 3-4 times a year. If you’re interested in teaching a class at the shop, email volunteer@sacbikekitchen.org and let us know. The Bike Kitchen is a community project, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

Q: Are you associated with the Bicycle Chef?

A: No. Chris and everyone else over at The Bicycle Chef has helped us out immensely, but we are not related. Just friends.
