December 7 Meeting Notes

Here are the notes for the core meeting on December 7th.

Agenda

The north room

* Administration? (not necessary)
* Put the carts in this room at night

Carts

* Lowe’s has a good readymade bench
* $170
* Ed has casters

Middle of room

* Get rid of the metal table?
Result: Everyone agreed to remove. OK with the landlord? Also, keep the central space as open as possible.

Program elements

* people come in to donate old bikes.

* People coming in to work on bikes
* how many stations
* people that come in and want to buy a bike
* people that want to take classes
* people that come in and want to buy parts

Bike parking for SABA

* The south side of the building
* lean to or tarp to keep the rain off?
* maintain an aisle for access
* take out the tree under the AC unit
* everyone agreed that it shouldn’t be a problem

The ladder and upstairs space

* not a real ladder
* attic ladder?
* too big and bulky
Result: save for a phase 2 remodel

The west side

* a bench going the width
* part drawers below
* keg buckets on the floor

The South side

* two large shelves for bikes
* one shelf on top for tires/wheels
* double decker bike storage
* almost identical to this shelving but with separators at the back wheel so bikes don’t lean.

The South West side alcove

* Space for dave?

The east side

* Space for bike parking outside
* SABA might have money for improvements
* get rid of the metal stand
* space for lockers and for customer bikes
* truing area by the compressor

The north alcove

* use for locking up tools

Subletting

* Bike messengers? What do they want to use the space for?
* Where to put Dave Fischer?
Result: Perhaps in the North West alcove. Maybe we should start with Dave only to see how subletting works.

List for Landlord

* fire ex
* garbage
* metal rack on east side.
* doors off of cabinets
* paint for the wall next door (from the landlord next door)
* North door block them off?
* can we get rid of the locker? (also it is locked)
* phone line?

When to open

Aim for second saturday in Jan

Cleanup day

* one for the very near term (saturday?)
* perhaps reoccuring?
* do we want the old scrap metal? no
* stage 1: bucket of paint from the landlord
* stage 2: a mural

Compressor

* we need fittings
* second point on the north west side

Security?

* for the windows mainly, also the door. Gina’s Dad?
* is there a security system?

Lighting

* where are the switches?
* get rid of the florescents?
* throw breaker on the big power
* Ed brought in CFLs.

Action Items

Ed: draw out the space design we talked about and send it to the list (or Scott) for publishing.
Scott: write up and distribute the meeting notes, email Ben about the questions we have, post a note about the cleanup day on Sat.
Brad: Look into prefab counters/cabinets, check on the wood beam he has, bring compressor fittings.
